PORTRAITS OF THE MIND 2010-2012

STATEMENT +

The world of neuroscience is intricately linked  with the psychology of human beings. I was interested in representing emotions on portraits related to a biochemical content and  provoking reactions regarding the "super power" of the science.

To do these portraits I use the accuracy and the rhythm of scientific models (a neuronal net, the cellular structure, the atoms in a molecule) and then, I use the sensitive and strong representation of a face which contains an  emotion. This work  is first developed with a repeated collage of a scientific pattern  and then, I build a face on this layer using oil paint.  As the scientific work is under the painting, this is a play like hide-and-seek, between scientific data and feelings that are more changeable.
